Jokes about working with children and animals aside, LA-based photographer Jill Greenberg has built an internationally acclaimed fine-art career by doing just that. Alternately revered and reviled for previous works featuring classical portraits of monkeys and shrieking children, the artist here includes two series that take her themes to new areas. Ursine features large-scale portraits of live grizzly, black, and polar bears, sporting a variety of anthropomorphically menacing, comical, and quixotic expressions and postures. Performance, on the other hand, depicts Greenberg's daughter and another girl, both in the rosy, coltish flush of adolescence — hanging from gymnastic harnesses and rings in an examination of the awkward, organic onslaught of female beauty.
