Adam Rifkin's latest, Look, is a big-screen picture featuring scandalous scenes seen entirely through surveillance video cameras. With 30 million such cameras in the United States alone, our real-time lives become dated data for the taking, and Rifkin's voyeuristic vista engages the viewer in the growing ideological and technological debate. Knitting several surreptitious observations of persons caught unawares across offices, stores, and shopping malls, the firebrand film is a stimulating exchange of impeded privacy and unhindered human nature. Among these fictive spied subplots are two teenagers shopping to seduce a high-school teacher, convenience-store clerks aiming to stop the "Candid Camera Killers," and an insufferable insurance salesman with an ulterior motive.
