Like Werner Herzog's slo-mo documentary on ski-flying The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner (1974), Steep conveys the breathless exhilaration of an extreme sport: big-mountain skiing. The high-definition film documents the rise of the nigh-suicidal experience across several lonesome, lovely peaks in Alaska, France, and Iceland. Director Mark Obenhaus focuses on the athletes' weightless existence and the risk management involved in pursuing an impossible moment.
