Today's money-motivated spirituality seems atavistic; though a lesser version, it's a throwback to the brainwashed mysticism of the '70s. Then-awesome, now-awful documentary Aliens from Spaceship Earth is an out-of-this-world and outrageous mosaic of rare clips from earth-dwelling "extraterrestrials" — those exploitative avatars and messiahs of self, including Guru Maharaj Ji, Yogi Bhahan, Ram Dass, and Father Yod. An added and apt delight is Donovan's mishmash soundtrack.
