Considered by many to be the ultimate Smiths cover band, they've gathered their own cult following over the years — lead singer Jose Maldonado (known affectionately as the "Mexican Morrissey") has appeared in a Morrissey video and documentary, and even performs some signature Smiths anthems en español. Maldonado's dead-on Morrissey impression can confuse the most passionate of fans, but don't expect a night of karaoke. Sweet and Tender Hooligans make music that's tender tribute, never trite.
