Los Angeles Poverty Department, UTOPIA/dystopia
Dec 6, 2007 – Dec 9, 2007
Thursdays–Saturdays (8:30pm)
Sundays (3pm)
$20
Since 1985, the Los Angeles Poverty Department has been committed to creating extraordinary, challenging performances that express the realities and hopes of people who live and work on LA's Skid Row. Continuing its tradition of representing the homeless by refusing to be silenced, the ensemble loudly questions civic policy with the new production Utopia/Dystopia. While Bunker Hill has been transformed into a gentrified district with luxury condos and financial high-rises, Skid Row has been devastated through neglect and reactionary policy. Led by founding director John Malpede, LAPD's commentary is always spot on, deep, confrontational, and real.
