Brooklyn-based illustrator and mixed-media painter Jordin Isip uses collage as his primary medium. This eclectic approach serves both as a literal means of constructing rough-hewn compositions from nontraditional found materials and as a figurative approach to his wide-ranging influences, drawing from urban and tribal culture. Jason Houchen, meanwhile, somewhat inverts that formula; Houchen culls his romantic visual style from traditional icons of the American Midwest, but infuses these epic narrative pictures with pop flourishes and a decidedly unromantic level of violence.
