Nicole Cohen engineers recombinant layers of still and video imagery, investigating the network of associations that interior spaces contain. Also, she has something of a chair fetish. Her current project, Please Be Seated, was commissioned by the Getty Center to be installed in its under-appreciated decorative-arts galleries. Depending on who you ask, the piece is either a high-concept, interactive experiment in identity-based era and experience conflation; a strategy to lure new audiences into the classical design galleries; or the fruits of her ongoing search for the sexiest chair in the world.
