Film Evel Knievel (1971)

Late daredevil Evel (né Robert Craig) Knievel's endangering exploits created a cultural craze in the late '60s. In this bouncy biopic, Knievel's hometown of beautiful Butte, Montana, becomes the flashback setting for the motorcycling madman's tall-tale early life as he (played by pre-tan George Hamilton) reflects on his most famous stunts before yet another death-defying jump. Hamilton handsomely channels the showman's charismatic, brash spirit — a perilous blend of a Barnum & Bailey public image and a physical self pushed to insane, bone-shattering acmes. A thoroughly entertaining engagement, tonight's the night to marvel at a uniquely American risk advocate and sui generis stuntman.
