RB Kitaj, Passion (1940-45): Writing, Courtesy Skirball Cultural Center, © RB Kitaj
Friday Jan 11, 2008
$10
Painter RB Kitaj spent much of his career in Europe, becoming part of the late-'60s London School (with David Hockney and Lucian Freud) before returning to the US to live his last years in LA. Passion and Memory is a much-anticipated survey featuring works from his private collection. Of special interest are Kitaj's controversial late figurative works, alternatively admired and reviled by critics for their striking colors and exaggerated, distorted figurative techniques, which were meant to suggest the dangerous, occasionally blurred divide between the living and the dead.
