There's political art; there's the art of political stagecraft; and then there's The Candidate, the new exhibition of sketches, sculptures, and photographs that artist Rachel Mason produced while following the earlier months of the current presidential race. Having attended a plethora of campaign events while watchdogging the media, Mason examines the intersection of truth and illusion through dozens of imaginatively and energetically composed gestural images. The resulting works offer a simultaneously intimate and inscrutable portrait of democracy in action.
