The brainchild of Bay Area musician Dawn McCarthy (aka Dawn the Fawn), Faun Fables formed a decade ago when the singer left the cabaret streets of New York City for fresh musical fields. Fans of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's Nils Frykdahl (McCarthy's longtime beau) will warm to Faun Fables' sweeping, surreal compositions, rooted in folk, theatre, and Celtic charms — imagine Kate Bush fronting Led Zeppelin. Fairytale imagery runs amok, but the band's catchy, wispy melodies are the things that stick in your head. Tonight, the Fables perform tracks from their fourth and latest opus, The Transit Rider, a concept album based on an original theatrical production.
