This eccentric documentary tracks David Lynch during the filming of his heavyweight epic Inland Empire. Assembled from two years of video footage, it takes a candid look at the director's variable moods and artistic whims, creating intimacy through episodes from his everyday work and recordings of his free-flowing, creative process. Lynch muses on everything from his Philadelphia days to the practice of Transcendental Meditation, which serves as his philosophical backbone. The jarring editing and otherworldly acoustics evoke the filmmaker's own spirit, but, despite the revealing footage, the omnivorous artist remains a fascinating enigma.
