Film: Shorts The Short Films of David Lynch

Like concentrated versions of his feature films, David Lynch's shorts are kaleidoscopic views of the director's dreams (and nightmares). LACMA's 30-year survey of Lynchian miscellany spans from his student-art-installation-turned-1966-short Six Men Getting Sick to Premonitions Following an Evil Deed, his characteristically disquieting entry for the 1996 omnibus feature Lumière et compagnie. Best amongst the bunch are The Alphabet, which offers the elementary-school sing-along with a bloody twist, and The Cowboy and the Frenchman, a delightfully droll exercise in cultural contrast.
