It took 11 years for Vietnamese choreographer Ea Sola to follow up her heralded work Drought and Rain. In Vol. 2, Sola makes a soulful examination of war memory through the eyes of youths in the contemporary world to forge a message, through dance, that peace is a proactive stance that can be obtained only through commitment and action. Utilizing a traditional Vietnamese music ensemble, Sola creates an environment of the framed portraits used on traditional Vietnamese memorial altars, and choreographs a frenetic and careening dance wherein the dancers begin to make personal connections to violent world events through the specificity of individual lives torn apart by war.
