As Chinese New Year celebrations bring you to Chinatown, remember that the neighborhood is also home to dozens of contemporary art galleries, many of which are open during Saturday's parade. A new mixed-media show at Mary Goldman uses craft and cunning to alternately explore and ridicule larger questions of existence. Sculpture and installation by Dan Webb hold sway at Acuna-Hansen, drawing from the visual cues of the dandelion weed, conceptual prisms, and art-history tropes. Sam Lee Gallery shows Juanita Meneses' watercolor and oil paintings, featuring sketchy near-disasters and other harbingers of trouble against richly painted fields of color. Closing this month is Danial Nord's video installation Fate Machine at Fringe Exhibitions; and opening at L2Kontemporary is an exhibition of vivacious architectural paintings by Simone Gad.
