Prova d'orchestra, Federico Fellini's last film with his celebrated musical collaborator Nino Rota, is a mock documentary. Acutely self-aware, the film follows the members of a television crew as they interview metaphor-spewing and rebellious musicians. Rota's romanticism cuts neatly against the frantic pace of the action, and the results are refreshingly Felliniesque: hilarious, satirical, and magnificently shot.
