Known to some as the "Jewish Elvis," Neil Diamond is a master of reinvention, having succeeded as a folk troubadour, leisure-suited crooner, and now as a true American icon who can call up any of his previous incarnations at will. The Solitary Man's latest album, Home Before Dark, returns the singer/songwriter to critical and commercial glory in the form of introspective, Rick Rubin-produced rock 'n roll. Though these performances focus on an all-new Neil, keep your ears open for plenty of back-catalog gems, including sentimental fave "Sweet Caroline." It's a song mercilessly appropriated by the Boston Red Sox, although Diamond says he's a devout Yankees man.
