Note:
PCMA hosts an artist talk with Deborah Aschheim and Lisa Mezzacappa on Sunday, December 13 (3-4pm).
PMCA's Project Room is transformed into a beguiling labyrinth, addressing the elusiveness of memory and the neurobiological basis of thought, via Deborah Aschheim's installation Earworms. Taking its title from a German term for the song snippet that won't leave your head, the exhibit is comprised of intertwined quasi-celestial beings with tiny video cameras for heads, simultaneously broadcasting generic vacation photography. The video content is paired with eerily charming melodies, commissioned by sound artist Lisa Mezzacappa, who recruited Bay Area musicians to compose pieces around some of Aschheim's favorite words. The result is an intriguing sight and sound sculpture that is at once enchanting, creepy, and perplexing.
