New landscapes and seascapes from LA-based painter Takako Yamaguchi combine the stylized organic geometry of op art with the sensual smoothness of patterned silk. Strong, crisp horizon lines divide skies quilted with tubular cloud formations from luminous, chromatically saturated expanses of earth or sea. The large-scale works are evocative in atmosphere and scale, and communicate in a language that's just abstract enough to preclude realist interpretation. The overall effect is more "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" than "amber waves of grain."
