Music: Rock/Pop Hearts of Palm UK w/ Fol Chen, and the Sweet Hurt

It's a bubblegum-and-backbeat free-for-all at El Cid tonight, featuring a triple bill of LA indie outfits with a shared enthusiasm for sugar and spikes. New-wave electropop headliners Hearts of Palm UK (who celebrate the release of their new CD tonight) may be the mellowest band ever to get Indie 103.1 airplay. Openers and fellow locals the Sweet Hurt add a contemplative, folksy edge, while Fol Chen offers a heavier, more theatrical variety of pop lament, and interstitial DJ sets from happy-go-lucky spinneristas the Squaregirls keep the evening humming.
