Music: Rock/Pop Born Ruffians w/ Plants and Animals

Sure, the Canadian springs have just about run dry, but when an incredible label like Warp starts dropping pail, there must be at least one drop left in the well. Toronto-bred indiekins Born Ruffians loaded the front end of their self-titled debut with frantic poppers in a fair imitation of rambling ensembles like the Unicorns and Architecture In Helsinki. About halfway through the record, the band really arrives, layering their skewed indie approach and quirky pop sensibilities with Americana edges, measured yowls, thick bass, anthemic sing-along vocals, and rubbery guitars.
