Antwerp's Toneelhuis theatre collective boasts an artist-in-residence roster whose values dictate that theatre, dance, video, and music must all sit around the table together to create a new paradigm of performance. For Myth, Moroccan-Flemish choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui melds various approaches and traditions — and negates all hierarchies — to stage a rite of passage through a world of haunting shadows for 14 actor/dancers. With a monumental set featuring multiple vanishing points and a soundtrack of Arab-Andalusian chants from the 12th century played live by Micrologus, Myth blends styles and iconography while exploring far-flung cultures.
