Woodbury University goes Hollywood — or at least goes to Hollywood — by inaugurating its new off-campus gallery space with Analytic & Synthetic Pile-Up. The group exhibition brings together 15 LA artists whose work involves stacking, layering, piling, and other more-is-more visual strategies that examine the ways common objects exist in space. From luminous light monuments made of melted drinking cups to elaborate forms of mass-produced industrial materials that express Far Eastern aesthetics, the eclectic range of work from painters, sculptors, and other genre-blenders favors density and transformation as it melds theory with playfulness.
