Perhaps the practices of interdisciplinary art and mental health care are not as different as they seem. Peter Sellars is an impish scholar whose ambitious, often community-based mixed-media spectacles tackle topics ranging from ancient mythology to urban poverty. Alex Miramontes, a performer and mental-health professional, has also devoted his career to activism and organizing for people from diverse walks of life. Tonight, the longtime friends have a public conversation about the parallels between their fields and the role that art plays in healing both personal and societal rifts in the troubled global village.
