In his previous life as a principal at a "Hollywood creative firm," Neal Spector was instrumental in enabling LA's obsession with labels. Now working as a photographer whose compositional style reveals deep strains of conceptualism, dry humor, and irony, Spector exhibits manipulated black-and-white and color portraits that contain character and occupational pronouncements such as "Drama Queen," "Chain Smoker," and "Hollywood Agent." This strong show presages good things from LA's new beacon of smart images, Guy Hepner, who made his name in London as a dealer of photography and contemporary art.
