Wolfgang Tillmans is like the Madonna of the art world: never afraid to change directions, reinvent himself, or throw in a surprise or two to keep things interesting. His most recent exhibitions of photographs and video work reflect this restlessness. At Regen Projects his video works portray scenes of simple, somewhat mundane moments that are notable for their pleasant — as opposed to unsettling — presence. Alternately, at Regen Projects II, Tillmans' dramatic oversized photos explore color, light, and line in abstract compositions that appropriate forms from photocopies. The pieces truly surround viewers, coalescing into a disorienting wallpaper of texture.
