The trend of traditional arts being reimagined by contemporary genre-benders continues with this ballet from post-punk icon Elvis Costello. Making its West Coast debut, Miami City Ballet's Nightspot is a collaboration between choreographer Twyla Tharp and Costello, and features costumes designed by Isaac Mizrahi. Nightspot remains a mysteriously hush-hush production, and details are scarce — an intentional move by artistic director Edward Villela, who wants to inject an element of intrigue back into ballet. Filling out the bill are Balanchine's Tarantella and Symphony in Three Movements, and Christopher Wheeldon's Liturgy.
