Remember in LA Story when Steve Martin thought the LED signs on the freeway were speaking to him? The work in Bob Zoell's current show is kind of like that, but without the fancy technology. Good old-fashioned parking signs retain their familiar compositions, but warn against your own baser instincts — rather than, say, blocking the loading zone. These and other examples of Zoell's trademark snide humor and penchant for punnery, both visual and verbal, extend the influence of one of LA's favorite artists of the wild, wild west that was the city's art scene in the '80s.
