The Mountain Goats come to San Francisco this week as part of their US tour, entitled The Last Happy Night of Your Life. With over a dozen albums under its belt, the outfit — which for years consisted solely of frontman John Darnielle — builds songs around brilliantly tortured lyrics that often deploy heavy doses of sardonic wit. Discography highlights include 2003's Tallahassee and 2005's John Vanderslice-produced The Sunset Tree. Live, Darnielle's amusing banter and impressive musicianship always make for a memorable show. Singer/songwriter and recent collaborator Kaki King opens.
