Norwegian songstress Ane Brun may best be described to American audiences as the thinking-Scandinavian-man's Dolly Parton. Brun's blissful vocals evoke the innocence and clarity of a wide-eyed ingenue, but her jaw-dropping lyrics dispel any inkling of unworldliness. (Think Joni Mitchell's insight with Bjork-like inflections.) The singer's latest album, Changing of the Seasons, is an impressive affair; it's more accessible than 2005's A Temporary Dive (whose darkness was perhaps the result of her jam sessions with fellow Scandinavians A-Ha), and has yielded significant shout-outs on KCRW.
