After two long years, shoemaker-cum-troubadour Ray LaMontagne returns with a dazzling new record. Gossip in the Grain lands with "You Are The Best Thing," teasing with robust horns and a richer, more complex sound than 2004's Trouble — while at the same time resembling Till the Sun Burns Black standout "Three More Days." It's hard to believe the man woke up one morning to a Stephen Stills song and decided to become one of the most soulful singer/songwriters of our time. But given his talent for raspy romanticism, perhaps it isn't so surprising.
