Don't let his dashingly good looks fool you: pretty boy Val Emmich can also carry a tune. A veritable jack-of-all-trades, the Ugly Betty co-star finished his first novel earlier this year, as well as his sixth album, Little Daggers, which follows in the funkier footsteps of fellow New Jerseyian Pete Yorn. On the record, Emmich collaborates with some impressive names in the indie-rock world, notably Rilo Kiley's Blake Sennett. But the disc shines best on the toe-tapping cuts destined for the mixing board, such as "The Lucky Ones."
