Culver City's Corey Helford Gallery teams up with London's StolenSpace Gallery to present Clowns!, a new way of looking at the unnerving canon of American clown painting. Artists Paul Frank, Shag, Gary Baseman, Anthony Ausgang, Carlos Ramos, Kinsey, Buff Monster, and many others take the subject matter of what once was mostly seen as cult art — à la serial killer John Wayne Gacy — and place it firmly in the setting of contemporary fine art. The result is a collection of endearing works that address the comic nature, the pathos, and in some cases the terrible creepiness, of the clown.
