The Breeders pay little heed to the 20 years that have passed since their hey-day: on this year's Mountain Battles, frontwoman Kim Deal (also of the reunited Pixies) and identical twin sister Kelley dove back into '90s alt-rock waters, emerging with an album that sits perfectly next to mid-'90s post-grunge mainstay Last Splash in the band's pantheon. The Breeders' best moments remain rooted in the simplicity of their arrangements, as evidenced on this year's "Bang On," a song full of good ideas that, like the band's members, never step on each other.
