Tonight, the new Downtown incarnation of Safari Sam's hosts Art Knows No Borders, a twist on silent-auction conventions replete with exotic music, videos, poetry, belly dancers, and free art for the first 500 attendees. In an effort to raise $20,000 for international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders, 120 artists have donated their works. Live performers include Iranian heavy-metal band Tarantist, electrifying hip-hop group Pic Vicious, and urban-gypsy marching band Killsonic. A $20 donation is suggested, but the all-ages event promises not to turn anyone away. Also, donations and purchases are tax deductible, enabling holiday buyers to stock up on imaginative gifts with help from Uncle Sam.
