- Dawn Upshaw
For more than 20 years, the Los Angeles Philharmonic has been producing the Green Umbrella series in an effort to bring new music to the city's most daring and intrepid orchestra lovers. Noted Hungarian composer György Kurtág's Kafka Fragments marks this season's premiere. Staged by theater director Peter Sellars, the production spotlights soprano Dawn Upshaw alongside violinist Geoff Nuttall, co-creator of the St. Lawrence String Quartet. The two performers play a housewife and street musician, respectively, acting out Kurtág's musical interpretations of Franz Kafka's prose.
Note:
Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky hosts a pre-concert engagement in the BP Hall one hour before the performance.
