Named "Buddy" in honor of a particularly beloved teddy bear, Violet Valen's line of hand-crafted hoodies is about as hardcore as pretty clothing can get. More Tank Girl than Gap, her garments flaunt and flounce their shredded lace and post-industrial patchworks, adding a feminine edge to the look of the urban punk princess. Valen's creations have caught the eye of many admirers, not least among them Stones Throw don Peanut Butter Wolf and Banana Split's Mike B, who lend tonight's line-debut party enough beats and rare grooves to turn the room into a catwalk.
