Tonight, film preservation expert Barry Allen discusses the restoration of Sergio Leone's 1968 C'era una volta il West, a lost masterpiece starring Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, and Jason Robards, Jr. With a motley collection of disparate cinematic styles, the film offers a classic tale of Manifest Destiny, chronicling America's rapid industrialization with a dramatic score by spaghetti-western melodist Ennio Morricone. This free screening is part of the UCLA Film and Television Archive’s annual 10-week film program, Out of the Past: Film Restoration Today, which continues through December 1st.
