Incorporating elements of rock, jazz, and R&B into homespun pop ditties, Austin singer Suzanna Choffel creates music that's as inspired by Doris Day as it is by Eve and Ani DiFranco. Her 2006 debut, Shudders and Rings, made the singer/songwriter a force to be reckoned with in the Texan indie-music scene, but Choffel's themes resonate well beyond the lone star state. Her music levels intelligent, often scathing commentary on America the Great — a theme she continues to push both on stage and off.
