Johannesburg-based urban geographer and artist Ismail Farouk offers a multimedia overview of his recent work in the second installment of the MAK Center's Locus Remix: Three Contemporary Positions. Public space and its continuing transfer to private control is scrutinized through video, photography, and performance, as Farouk offers both Johannesburg and Los Angeles as case studies in his examination of the trend. Farouk also details the complex urbanity of the two cities, revealing modern development's grave political and financial inconsistencies in what should be a post-apartheid world.
