If you like your dance to careen wildly from seeming abandonment to sublime grace and back again, then Ölelés is right up your alley. FITLA, the International Latino Theatre Festival of Los Angeles, and REDCAT become partners in crime as they co-present the West Coast premiere of this unflinchingly raw and delicately violent extended duet. In recent years, Catalonia has nurtured a vibrant and progressive contemporary-dance scene, and Ölelés features two of its iconic talents, Jordi Cortés and Damián Muñoz. Collaborating as co-creators/performers, Cortés and Muñoz are masters of manipulating momentum, and further leveraging it with brutal strength, allowing for dance that falls, flies, and flings itself with high-velocity lyricism.
