In sacred and profane, Los Angeles-based artist George Stoll expands upon his traditional examination of everyday Americana. Objects such as his well-known "Tupperware" pieces of the '90s address hallowed commercialist components of our culture, deconstructing corporation-pushed holidays, watered-down dime-store luxury, and consumer-oriented tropes of domesticity. He conflates these secular artifacts with neo-Classical, quasi-religious forms of ritual offerings, successfully challenging his own quotidian subject matter. At the same time, Stoll continues to lampoon US consumers for their lack of self-awareness, illuminating the subliminal links between possession and feeling.
