The works of LA painters Linda Day and Cristi Rinklin treat pattern as a malleable, organic thing that doesn't require symmetry to achieve harmony. Day's acrylic-on-panel striations collapse vast, hinted-at detail into bursting linear fields of pigment. By contrast, Rinklin's approach combines abstraction with floral, corpuscular imagery, occasionally juxtaposed with slicker graphic components like scrolls and speech bubbles, to spin a gossamer web of translucent layers and luminous, receding spaces.
