Project: gallery and Cerasoli join forces, merging their programs for the kind of no-brow urban romanticism that made LA famous. Scott Belcastro favors sweeping, starkly fanciful landscapes with low horizon lines, turbulent expanses, and lone figures. On the other extreme, Jill Simonsen's approach to landscape is taut and architectural, with clean-scrubbed color fields and forbidding structures. Nate Frizzell is the most lavishly emotional of the three, using feverish brushwork, confectionary, eerie ornamentation, and an ambidextrous hybrid of loosely graphic elements and finely hewn figures to pursue classically prosaic fantasy narratives.
