This month, Cerasoli-LeBasse Gallery presents a pair of exhibitions depicting imaginary lands, pairing the work by Evan Harris in the main room with that of Catherine Ryan in the project space. While both are fantastical, neither vision is particularly suited for children. Harris takes the cues for his paintings' big-fish storylines from the elaborate, fanciful tales woven by his grandfather, but his darkly nostalgic visual style is fraught with obsessive detail and wild imagination. Catherine Harris' drawings use heavy lines and savage color to depict the scenes of violence and chaos that result from ill-conceived meetings between people and untamed nature.
