While British outfit the Duke Spirit's rollicking blues riffs are more polished on their latest release, Neptune, their formula remains the same: energetic guitar and bass lines combined with bombastic drums and Liela Moss' curiously soulful pipes. At times, the result approximates bluesier Spiritualized tracks; at others, it sounds like the angular post-punk that's become de rigueur across the pond. Ultimately, the quintet knows its rock 'n roll talking points, and it neither surprises nor disappoints in fulfilling a well-worn model for solid pop success.
