Curated by Argentine Noel Palazzo, the Dot and the Line Festival strips animation to its elemental roots while simultaneously challenging the boundaries of abstraction in art. Tonight's screening, the last on the festival's west coast tour, features award-winning work by the official competition's finalists. Specific guidelines dictating proportion, perspective, and color were set; as a consequence, backgrounds and characters are comprised of simple lines and dots. The result is a diverse selection of shorts that creatively manipulate the most basic building blocks of illustration, design, and animation.
