A club superstar for the American Apparel set, French popster Sebastien Tellier toes the line between bangin' electroclash and unrepentant new wave kitsch, simultaneously alluding to art-rockers like the Moody Blues and '90s electronic acts like Air. Enraptured by seedy '80s excess, Tellier's breathy falsetto meets mid-tempo synth stabs, as sweaty riffs churn over immoralist tales of love and lust. For their part, openers Hearts Revolution tout a sense of a retro chic that's less immersed in '70s and '80s nostalgia, meshing 8-bit bleeps with dissonant vocal harmonies.
