Film East of Eden (1955)

Elia Kazan's adaptation of John Steinbeck's timeless Cain-and-Abel variation, East of Eden, isn't one of the director's best films — but it does feature James Dean's volatile first performance, which is definitely worth the price of admission. And while Dean's reputation would eventually outgrow this character, his Sir-Mopes-a-Lot persona never found a more appropriate fit than in super-sensitive Cal Trask, who competes against his goody-goody brother for their father's love.
